      • After Christina's brother Adam Schnell settled in Canada, he made arrangements for this sister and her family to follow them. Sadly, Canadian Immigration refused entry for one of Christina's children who had been born with a deformed hand and Christina refused to leave Russia without all of her children. The family remained in Norka and, along with many other Germans in Russia, suffered terribly under the reign of Stalin. Konrad Kleiber, Christina's husband, died in a Soviet prison on July 17, 1932. Konrad & Christina had seven children: Natalia Kleiber (1911-1998), Elisabeth Kleiber (1913- ), Margarita Kleiber (1918-1964), Wilhelm Kleiber (1921-1933), Adam Kleiber (1923-1933), Johannes Kleiber (1925- ), and Conrad Kleiber (1930-1933). Christina and three sons (Wilhelm age 12, Adam age 10, Conrad age 3) died of starvation in 1933. Two of the surviving children, Johannes and Elisabeth, lived for many years in Kazakhstan. During the 1990s, Johannes immigrated with his family (7 children) to Germany. His sister Elisabeth, who never married, went with them. She is the child of Konrad & Christina who was denied entry into Canada. Still living in Germany, Elisabeth Kleiber will turn 90 years old in 2003.
